Free Stock Photography

Unsplash is pretty awesome. It’s free; although it does display paid images, mixed amongst the feed of free images. I have been able to use lots of images from their site. I will say though, after a while, you do recognise when you see the same images used extensively on other sites. For this reason, I would suggest that one disadvantage is that your site can be less original if you rely heavily on these images. The images are easy to credit, as the photogropher’s name is clearly listed for each image.

Pexels is also a free stock photo and video platform that offers high-quality, royalty-free images and videos contributed by creators from around the world.

Kaboompics

Full disclosure: doing the research for this post was the first time I opened Kaboompics. They have a reputation for offering high-quality, beautiful free stock images you can use on your website or for your products. Stay tuned, as I will develop this section as I further explore their free stock images.

AI Image Generators

Leonardo.ai

Leonardo.ai is a generative AI platform that enables users to create visually stunning images, textures, and even short videos using text prompts, image inputs, or sketches. It’s designed to be both beginner-friendly and powerful enough for professionals.

Leonardo AI was Born in Australia (late 2022) and gained ~7 million users and produced hundreds of millions of images within a year. In July 2024, Canva acquired Leonardo.ai, integrating its AI models (especially Phoenix) into Canva’s Magic Studio, while Leonardo still operates as an independent platform.
