Moon Style Root

If you’re here, Ellie Jean Royden’s style roots system probably needs no introduction. But incase you aren’t familiar with the system, this post gives a general overview of the style system.

There are 8 style roots and here we are going to focus on the Moon style root. This is one of the most distinct style roots, and of you have Moon in your style, you probably know it. If your wardrobe moto as a teenager was “any colour, as long as it’s black”, you are have Moon as one of your style roots.

Moon is dark and edgy. Think Punk, Goth and Grunge. Ellie Jean describes it as dark and mysterious. It’s for the rebels. It represents the gloomy, deep, and celestial.

This list of Moon traits is directly from Ellie. She describes Moon as:

  • Mysterious
  • Edgy
  • Ethereal
  • Gothic
  • Rebellious
  • Haunting
  • Mystical
  • Dark
  • Vampiric

Again, directly from Ellie Jean Royden: elements to add Moon to your style are:

  • Dark colours
  • Leather
  • Studs
  • Metalic
  • Plaid

Who does the Moon style suit?

Winters are the obvious candidates for a Moon style, as their complexion is the most compatible with black. However, Autumns can lean into the military greens and deep mahogany reds in their pallet. You’ll also notice that a very light peroxide blonde is a striking contrast to an all black get up that gives it a really edgy look.

Examples of Moon Root Styling

You can introduce Moon style elements into your looks by incorporating leather, studs, lace-up boots, chunky metal chains, torn elements, Metalics and plaid. Below are examples of Moon Style Root outfits.
